A gloss is a demi-permanent tone that sits on the hair rather than lifting it, so it adds shine, evens out patchiness and knocks the warmth out of lightened hair. It is what most people need between full colour appointments, and it is the cheapest way to make hair look expensive. We mix it in a plain bowl at the chair so you can see the shade going on, and we tone to how your hair reads in daylight out on the ridge, not under salon lights.

$95 for a mid-lengths and ends refresh, $120 all over, up to $150 for long or very dense hair. Add it to a cut and the blow-dry is only charged once.

Step by step, in this order

Typical time: 45 to 60 minutes. You are told which step you are on.

  1. 01 Look at the current tone in natural light
  2. 02 Mix the gloss and show you the shade in the bowl
  3. 03 Apply and process for 15 to 20 minutes
  4. 04 Rinse, condition and blow-dry

How is a gloss different from colour?

It does not lift. It sits on the hair, so it cannot take you lighter, but it can change the tone, kill brass and add a lot of shine. It fades out gently over six to eight weeks.

Do I need a patch test for a gloss?

Yes, if you have not had colour with us before. It takes two minutes and has to be done at least 48 hours ahead.

Will it cover greys?

It will blend and soften them, and on scattered greys that is often enough. For solid coverage you want a permanent colour, which we quote separately.
