FAQ

Questions

Deposits, cancellations, patch tests, parking and pricing. Service-specific questions live on their own service page.

01Booking and payment

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes for any booking over 90 minutes and for every colour or smoothing service. It is $50, it comes straight off your bill, and you pay it when you book online or over the phone. Cuts and blow-dries do not need one.

What is your cancellation policy?

We need 48 hours to move or cancel an appointment. Inside 48 hours we keep the deposit, and a no-show is charged at 50 per cent of the booked service before you can book again. It is not there to punish anyone, it is there because a four hour colour slot cannot be refilled on the morning.

How far ahead should I book?

Saturdays run about three weeks out and Thursday evenings about two. Weekdays are usually available within a week. Colour and smoothing appointments need longer slots, so the further ahead the better.

Do you take walk-ins?

Only if there is a gap, which does happen on weekday mornings. Ring first and Jules will tell you honestly whether it is worth the trip.

What if I am running late?

Call us. Under fifteen minutes we will usually still fit you in, though we may have to shorten the finish. Over fifteen minutes on a colour booking and we will normally have to rebook you, because the timing on colour is not flexible.

02Colour and patch tests

Do I need a patch test?

Yes, for any colour service if you have not had colour with us before, and again if it has been more than six months. It takes two minutes and has to happen at least 48 hours ahead. We can do it while you are in for a cut.

03The salon itself

Where do I park?

There is two hour free street parking on the side streets off the ridge, and it is easier before 10:00am and after 2:00pm. The buses along the ridge stop within a couple of minutes walk of the door.

Do you cut men's hair?

Yes. It is the same booking and the same price structure, which is set by time and stylist level rather than by gender.

Do you cut children's hair?

From about age six, on weekday mornings when the salon is quieter. It is $55 up to age twelve, which is a shorter booking than an adult cut rather than a discount on one. We will not attempt a first haircut on a toddler, and we will say so when you ring.

Is the salon accessible?

The shopfront is level from the footpath with no step, and there is a wide basin bay that fits a wheelchair. The bathroom is not accessible, which we would rather tell you now than when you arrive.

Can I buy the products without an appointment?

Yes. The retail shelf is open during trading hours and you do not need to have your hair done to use it. We will also tell you if the cheaper supermarket version does the same job.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes, in any amount, and they do not expire for three years. Most people buy them as a dollar value rather than a service so the recipient can choose.

What products do you use?

Professional colour and care lines chosen for how they behave in humidity rather than for the deal on offer. We are happy to name them in the salon, and happy to tell you when a cheaper product will do the same thing.

04Cost

How much will it cost?

You get the number before the cape goes on, in writing for anything over $200. Cuts run $105 to $175 depending on stylist level, colour starts at $95 for a gloss, and smoothing is quoted after a strand test.
