What actually happens, and how long it takes
Six stages, the same order every time, taken straight from the film.

The consultation
Free, 15 to 20 min
Hair dry, as it came in. We talk through the last three cuts, test how it behaves damp, and write a humidity read on your card before anything is booked.

At the basin
20 to 25 minutes, 35 minutes extended
Double cleanse, a proper scalp massage, and a conditioner chosen for your scalp rather than your lengths. Already inside the time for every service below.

Cut damp, checked dry
60 to 75 minutes
Most of the shape goes in with the hair damp, then we dry off and go back in with the hair moving, because wet hair lies about where the weight sits.

Colour, if today needs it
45 min to 4 hours
Gloss, foils, balayage or a correction, mixed in a plain bowl at the chair so you can see the shade going on and matched in daylight, not under salon lights.

The finish
35 to 50 minutes
A round-brush blow-dry weighted for the day’s humidity, with the two minute home version shown to you before you stand up.

Past the palm frond and into whatever Brisbane is doing today. The hair stays the size it was when you stood up.

- StylingHumidity shield cream
A light leave-in cream that coats the cuticle so hair takes on less moisture from the air. This is the one we send home with almost every smoothing client. A 150ml tube lasts most people about three months.

The take-home version of the in-salon treatment, for once a week between visits. Heavier than a conditioner, so keep it off the scalp and work it from the mid-lengths down.

Clarifying shampooA monthly reset wash that strips hard-water minerals and silicone build-up, which is usually what is behind hair going flat and dull in Brisbane. Use it once a fortnight, not daily.

Boar bristle round brushThe 43mm brush our stylists use for a shoulder-length blow-dry. Boar bristle grips better than nylon and lets you dry with less heat, which matters more than any product you can buy.

Heat protection mistA fine mist that goes on damp hair before the dryer. It is not optional if you blow-dry more than twice a week, and it weighs nothing, which matters on fine hair.

A run of humid weeks emptied the diary in 2019, and people said there was no point booking. We stopped taking that personally and started teaching it instead.
